Senior Camogie Team edge out Thomas Davis in League - Fri, 14 Apr 2006

St Brigids 2-3 Thomas Davis 1-5

St Brigids 2-3 Thomas Davis 1-5

St Brigids camogie team got their first league win of the season by beating Thomas Davis by the narrowest of margins, with a score line of 2-3 to 1-5.

In this closely fought contest, it was Brigids who got the better start, with Niamh Adams and Elaine Duncan looking dangerous, resulting in the opening score by Patricia Bruen, 5 minutes into the game. Thomas Davis however failed to give up, and quickly scored two points without reply. Shortly before half time, Brigids scored the first goal of the game, a great pass by Mary Galvin allowed Patricia Bruen to hit the ball into the back of the net. However, a major blow came right at the whistle of half time as the ball creped into the Brigids Goal. Half time score, 1-1 to 1-2.

The second half, up the hill and against the wind, showed Brigids determination and team spirit. Great defending from the back line, in particular Daniel Powell, Colette Coady and Fiona Clifford, and some fine saves by Martina Sheridan kept Thomas Davis?s scoring to a minimum and created the atmosphere for what was a thrilling final five minutes.

Two great points from Anne Kirwan left Brigids in touching distance and in the final minute of the game, Paula Bruen's long range shot found the back of the net to give Brigids their well earned victory.

Well done to all the team and management involved.
