Under 11 Camogie Season Review for 2006 - Thu, 30 Nov 2006

The Under 11 team had an excellent season. In the league they were drawn in Division 1 Group A and played ten matches finishing third, in what was a very competitive group. Numbers have grown, we started in January with 21 and now have 27 players registered. The girls have turned up consistently for training and show great enthusiasm for the game.

Early in the New Year we ran a very successful indoor mini league with ten teams participating. The finalists for the cup were Naomh Brid and Castleknock, it was necessary for the match to go to extra time to decide the outcome, which saw Castleknock take the cup. The perpetual trophy and medals for winners and runners-up were presented by Aoife Cronin, our thanks to her for attending on the day.   Feedback from the event was very positive and seemed to be thoroughly enjoyed by all.

All of the girls and many of the parents participated in the bag packing in Tesco and we raised approx. €3,000. The girls enjoyed an end of term party both at Christmas and summer break.

Some feedback for consideration:

  • We found it difficult to play the number of matches scheduled. In our experience, with weather difficulties, the playing season typically kicks off in late March and needs to be completed by the end of June.
  • This together with the very strict rules for rescheduling matches presented many challenges. We would be interested to get the views of other clubs on how they managed this issue.
  • Also for consideration, in our opinion the under 11's would benefit from playing smaller numbers, for example 11 a side instead of the current 15 a side and on a smaller pitch. To allow camogie to progress we suggest this is something that should be pursued.

All in all we believe we had a very successful year and would like to extend our thanks to all who participated and / or helped out in any way during the year. We would welcome any thoughts / ideas on how to improve the overall experience for the girls.
