Senior Camogie Start Off the Year with Great Cup Win Against Skerries - Fri, 7 Mar 2008

A huge well done to the senior camogie panel who defeated Skerries Harps quite decisively in the Open Cup on Sunday with an excellent performance by all involved.

The girls showed willpower and determination in bitter conditions and against a strong Skerries team fresh from division A. There was not a player not worth her place on this team, from goalie Colette Coady to full forward Aisling Kelly. Coady debuted in goal and did not disappoint, but credit must go to the defence also.

Both Joanne's were sturdy as always in the corners, with Catherine King impressing in full back and Anne Kirwan cleaning up in wing back; nothing passed either, as always! Paula Bruen was her usual brilliant self in the centre back position, taking two perfect points from placed balls.

The midfield was held together by Elaine Duncan and Katie Murphy, with Murphy dominating the game, scoring two points from play despite carrying an ankle injury which inevitably forced her to the sideline, reluctantly!

As for the forwards, two words: "in form". Christine Norton was on top of her game, with superb passes inside, while Tara Carolan was unstoppable when on the ball. Class scores on the day came from Aisling Dargan (0-1), Aisling Kirwan (1-1) and Aisling Kelly (3-1, 1-0f). Super sub Trish Bruen was imposing as ever in the forwards, showing impressive passing accuracy and skill. Keep up the good work girls!!!
