Nip and tuck. Russell Park rejoiced at the supreme efforts of both sides. Paul Beecher was the referee. He hardly had to blow his whistle. "It was a cracking game. There's never much between us," stated Whitehall mentor Joe O'Grady. Shaunagh Harte got all the Whitehall scores. She's an outstanding performer. In the first half she went on a solo that Louise O'Hara would have been proud of. In the second period she dropped deep to help out her defence as Brigid's swept forward with menace.

They were level at the turn. Niamh McKenna's free in the seventh minute at the road end was the first score. Five minutes before the interval Harte's free tied it up. The second half was compelling. The sliotar must have felt it was trapped in a pinball machine. On the way into the venue on Sunday morning Perry Como's Magic Moments was playing on the radio.

Two of them from Harte ensured that the trophy was heading for Collins Avenue. Achievement Ten minutes from time she angled over a beauty from wide on the right. And then, deep in injury-time, she struck another gem from play. It was all over. "It was a great achievement for the girls.
