Club League and Championship Campaigns - Mon, 6 Dec 2004 Under 10 Footballers Although we had anticipated running two teams at this age-group, in the end we fielded a single team due to the changes in playing rules for the 2004 season which affected our plans adversely. We were placed in division 1 but only three teams including ourselves participated at Division 1 This meant repeated meetings with Ballyboden St Endas and Foxrock, as the grading system had gone asked and we were the unfortunate victims. Despite league defeats the players battled bravely and cheerfully. Our best run was in the championship where we reached the semi-final in which gave Skerries Harps a competitive match although we were defeated. There was a big take-up for the minileagues in the second half of June, sponsored by DG Opel and organised by the Nursery section, thanks are due to both. The capability and skill of the girls was particularly complimented in the course of the mini leagues and deservedly so. The annual under 10 Blitz was played on the 6th November and was a great success as always, for the younger players in particular. Under 11 Footballers This year was the first year ever that a competition was organised at this age group and we decided to take the plunge. Nine teams in total took part, there was a single competition for the league, with a single round of matches. The only drawback was that due to scheduling congestion difficulties the matches were fixed for the same time as the under 12 games. Our Under 11 team brought proudly to Saint Brigids the first Championship victory in Ladies Gaelic Football for 2004, with a great final victory over Scoil Ui Chonaill.. The team also performed strongly in the League, finishing up joint top with Scoil Ui Chonaill, the play-off has been put back due to a matter raised with the County board (not directly involving our team). Under 12 Footballers The Under 12 team played in Division 2, as previously. In the league three points were dropped, with an epic struggle to defeat St. Thomas, Castleknock in the home leg a definite highlight of the season and coming of age for this team. The last match of the league, against Scoil Ui Chonaill was the league decider and was won on 7th of Nov by St Brigids. The Championship series of games was exhilerating, it took two matches to beat Skerries Harps at the semi-final stage but our players held their collective nerve. The final against Foxrock gave St Brigids Ladies Footballers their Second Championship cup of the season. Under 14 Footballers This year the Under 14 team played in Division 2, as the age profile was heavily in favour of the younger players. Although we had little success in Feile in a sleety April day the team steadily built a formidable reputation in the league. A defeat in the first round of the Championship meant that we entered the Shield Competition and played the final on November 6th against Ballyboden St Endas. Extra time was needed in an exhilarating final, our team surpassed themselves and emerged shield winners. Under 16 Footballers Lying midway in the league and reached the semi-final of the championship where the draw was against the very strong Fingallians team. The St. Brigids girls gave Fingallians a very strong run for their money and did themselves proud, they fought to the final whistle but Fingallians took the day and went on to win the Championship. Minor Football Team Started training in the dark and played friendlies before the season. Won the league only dropping one match, and very narrowly pipped for the Championship, losing in added time to Kilmacud Crokes. Gave great support for the summer camps. Junior Footballers The Juniors didn't do quite as well as last season taking both league and championship titles in 2003. This was mainly due to the fact that they were effectively two divisions higher than in 2003, and struggled on this account. Ray Noonan came on board mid season and gave the girls a great boost. However, they didn't manage to pick up any silverware but had an enjoyable season. Senior Footballers The Seniors started training at the beginning of January under the guidance of George Brennan. They got off to a great start winning the first few league games however, they weren't as successful as had been hoped and struggled in the later half of the season. George won't be staying on as manager this year so we would like to thank him for all the hard work, time and effort he put in during the year.
