U12 Ladies Footballers suffer Champo Final defeat to Boden - Thu, 17 Nov 2005

U12 Ladies Championship

Ballyboden 9-7 v St Brigid's 3-3

It was a cold but mild morning in Ballymun when Brigid's U12 girls took to the field for the long awaited championship final against Ballyboden. The game got off to a quick start with Boden winning the throw in, however Brigid's excellent full back Laura Skehan cleared an early shot on goal by Boden. Shauna Hinkson had a pop at the other end for Brigid's but the ball just went wide of the post. Ciara Ruddy scored Boden's first goal of the game shortly followed by another goal from Sarah O'Brien for Boden. Brigid's had lots of possession at the other end but were finding it hard to score with a very high number of wides in this half where Boden converted nearly all their chances.

We saw great work in defence by Ellen Hayden and Meghan Grogan stopping Boden in their tracks on several occasions and up front Aisling King made a great run from the halfway line to blast the ball in the back of the net to open the scoring for Brigid's. Boden's Elaine McGrath was causing some problems scoring a further 2 goals in this half. We also saw some great runs from Brigid's Deirdre Murphy who's hard work was rewarded with a point in injury time. However, Boden had more scores on the board come the end of the half although it was far from a true reflection of the game as it really was anybodies game at this point.

Brigid's Shauna Hinkson won the throw in in the 2nd half but Boden managed to get possession but were unable to convert due to Brigid's great defending. Brigid's Aisling king had a shot on goal early on but was saved by the Boden keeper. The first score of the half came in the form of a goal after 5 mins for Boden followed shortly by 2nd goal for the side. This was answered by a superb goal resulting from a solo run from over the halfway line up the wing from Sub Sinead Farrelly who was barely on the pitch.

This boosted Brigid's and there followed a spurt of good play from them with another goal from Sinead Farrelly and a point from Deirdre Murphy. Brigid's dominated for a short period but Boden came back into it scoring 2 more points in quick succession and went on to score a further 2 goals. A last attempt came from Aisling King who scored Brigid's final point before the referee blew the whistle. In the end Boden proved worthy winners on this occasion but well done to all the girls and to mentors Tony Hegarty and Michael Grogan for getting to the final.
