U13 Ladies Footballers suffer Champo Final Heartbreak - Fri, 2 Dec 2005

Foxrock Cabinteely 5-6 v St Brigid's 2-4

The Brigid's U13 girls warmed up on this icy cold Sunday afternoon for their Championship final. Having been beaten by Foxrock already this season in the league, they knew this was no easy challenge.
Foxrock won  the throw in and were first to take a shot on Brigid's goalkeeper Helen O'Connor but she made a crucial save early on, the first of many in this game it must be said. Brigid's full back Caroline Brogan was also called upon early into the game but was the rock in the defence clearing the ball on both occasions.

Brigid's Anita O'Brien got the first score of the game resulting from a side line ball. Foxrock were unable to answer with a wide at the other end. Brigid's dominated early on and we saw some great passages of play starting with wing back Aoife Toomey onto Olivia Smartt into Sarah Fay who finished it off with a goal for Brigid's. A few mins later, Brigid's Sarah Fay scored another goal to put Brigid's in front 2-1 to no score 10 mins into the half.

Foxrock managed to get back on track after being rewarded a 45 which resulted in a goal from their (no. 15). Thereafter followed a spell of good play from Foxrock with another goal and a lot of possession but Brigid's defence were excellent preventing many more scores. Anita O'Brien scored another point for Brigid's before Foxrock evened the score with another 2 points before half time.

The second half saw Foxrock score 3 points in quick succession without answer from Brigid's until midfielder Roisin Kane managed a point from play. Michelle O'Reilly was unlucky not to score a goal which was saved by Foxrock's goalkeeper in a short period of dominance. Brigid's subs also has an impact on the game, in particular Emma Davitt in defence.

However, Foxrock's full forward line found space and scored 2 goals widening the gap between the sides. Brigid's fought on showing great determination in particular in defence. In the end Brigid's were unable to close the gap on the day. Foxrock scored a final goal to seal their win.
Well done to all involved.
