Junior Ladies Footballers draw with Na Fianna in 6 Goal Champo Thriller - Thu, 4 May 2006

St Brigids 3-8 Na Fianna 3-8

The St. Brigids Junior team were very unlucky not to win a very entertaining championship match against Na Fianna on Wednesday night in Russell Park. The girls got off to a great start in the first half against a very determined Na Fianna team. Katie Murphy was running the show from midfield and scored a total of 1-4 including an exceptionally well taken goal. Ciary Lowry also saved the Brigids girls on a few occasions in the goal. Leanne Murphy added a point and Louise Prior scored a brilliant point from a long range free. The defence managed to restrict Na Fianna to 4 points with Miriam Lowry outstanding in curtailing a very lively corner forward.

Na Fianna came out flying in the second half but St. Brigids struck first with a very well taken goal from full forward Fin NiDhomhnaill. However, the opposition refused to buckle and started taking their scores well. Katie Murphy continued where she'd left off and added 1-2 in the second half for an impressive personal tally of 2-6. The Brigids backs battled against many attacks with Louise Prior outstanding in the second half. Na Fianna's experience showed though and they scored a goal with the last kick of the game to equalise.

This leaves the Junior girls needing to win their last championship match in 4 weeks time to have a chance of qualifying for the semi finals.
