Senior Ladies Footballers Progressing with Cup Win over Lucan Sarsfields - Wed, 24 May 2006

St Brigid's 0-13 Lucan Sarsfield 0-5

Brigid's senior ladies are slowly but surely progressing and gaining confidence in their campaign to remain in Division one this year. They were slow to get started having conceted a few games early on this year but things are coming together for them now. On a wet and windy evening in Russell Park the home team showed that great skill and determination which was at the forefront of their championship campaign last year.

Lucan were first to put a score on the board but Brigid's wing back Aine Cullen quickly answered with a point from play after 5 mins. Both teams settled into the game scoring 3 points a piece in the first 10 mins.. However Brigid's took off on a scoring spree with 5 more unanswered points from Paula &Trish Bruen, Mary Galvin and Roisin Kelly to leave Lucan trailing 0-7 to 0-3 at half time. Full back Jenny Weldon showed some great defending in this half along with the brigid's half back line.

Second half started off well for both teams again Lucan scoring 2 points and Brigid's answering with a further 2 points from play. There was a very strong wind which was to Lucan's advantage in this half, however, they were finding it increasingly difficult to get the ball out of their own half with Brigid's midfielders Roisin Kelly and Sorcha Furlong dominating in centre field for most of this half and were getting all the breaking ball. A further 4 points from Mary Galvin and Carolann Griffin sealed the win for the home side. Centre forward Paula Bruen played a crucial role in this win.
