All Ireland Glory for 3 St Brigids Girls with Dublin U16 Footballers - Fri, 6 Oct 2006
(Shona Barrett & Enya Farrell) The Dublin U16 Ladies football team claimed another All Ireland title last week with the help of three local girls from St Brigids. Shona Barrett, Noelle Healy and Enya Farrell all played a key role in the victory over old rivals Cork on a score line of 5-16 to 1-10 at Clomnel. In the end the victory over Cork was clear cut with Noelle Healy scoring the 2nd goal for Dublin. The route to the final was a tough one with victories over Tyrone and Meath along the way. A memorable One point victory over champions Monaghan in the semi final ensured Dublin's place in the final. All three girls live locally and have been playing football with St Brigid's since they were 7 or 8. Two of the three have already won all Ireland U14 medals with Dublin and last year they won the Dublin div 2 final with St Brigids. Their current coach Richie Sturgess stated "this is a proud day for the club here, these girls have always played their heart out and are really talented. Their current success is well deserved and we are all expecting even greater things from them in the future" Ladies Gaelic football is a rapidly growing sport nationally and particularly in Dublin 15. The famous St Brigid's nursery takes place every Friday at 6am (football) and every Saturday at 10am (hurling). Boys and girls from 5 to 8 are more than welcome at the club's grounds (behind the Esso Garage on the Navan Road) any weekend. No special equipment is required as hurls, helmets and footballs will be provided. |
