Inter Ladies Footballers Through to Champo Knock-Out Phase after Topping Group - Thu, 31 May 2007

St Brigids ladies proved that goals win games as they clocked up an impressive 12 goals in two championship matches in the space of 3 days last week.  5 goals against Balinteer St Johns on Monday night in Russell Park and 7 past St Marks on Wednesday has opened the door to the semi final for the ladies team.   

An excellent display from Aoife Murray in goal coupled with another solid defensive performance against Balinteer saw the Brigids girls dominate the game. Alison Kelly and Roisin Ui Bhaoill were particularly prominent in the full back line with supurb displays also coming from Jenny Weldon and Trish Bruen at half back. 

Noelle Healy dazzled Balinteer with her trademark runs through their defence and Shona Barrett made a habit of knocking the ball into the back of the net. Colleen Barrett, Aimee Molloy and Katie Murphy knocked a number of points over the bar in what was a fabulous team effort from St Brigids.
On the back of the win against Balinteer St Johns, St Brigids Ladies travelled to Mc Gee Park in Tallaght to face St Marks in a must win game two days later. 

In abysmal weather conditions, Brigids did not start off as they had hoped and 2 goals from St.Marks in the first half could have been the end for their run in the Championship.  However the half time talk from mentors Ray Noonan and Eddie Murphy must have worked wonders as the girls came back with a vengeance in the second half. Brigids started the half strongly and it wasn?t long before Colleen Barrett scored a perfectly placed goal into the bottom corner and went on to gain an impressive personal tally of 4-3, Katie Murphy scored another 2 goals and one more from Noelle Healy shocked the Marks team who failed to score at all in this half. Half forwards Shona Barrett, Angie Fenton and Aimee Molloy fed the full forward line who managed to put a remarkable 7 goals past the keeper.

Rose Holland and team captain Roisin Kelly prevented the ball from going back into the Brigids half and the defence battled against any attacks that did get past the midfield mark with Aine Cullan putting in an outstanding series of blocks to prevent Marks from creating any type of threat to Brigids. The Intermediate Championship semi finals are being held on the 4th and 7th of July. Best of luck Ladies!
