Inter Ladies Footballers start off Campaign in Great Style - Mon, 9 Apr 2007

St Brigids 4-11 Clontarf 2-1

St Brigids Intermediate Ladies had a fantastic opening game to the season in Russell Park on Wednesday night. After a slow start, Katie Murphy and Caroloine Mc Groary put the ball over the bar and Debbie Greene showed great awareness to slot a rebounded shot into the back of the net. However, the team also had a countless number of wides in the first half and the Brigids Ladies found themselves behind by 1 point at half time. In what was almost a replica performance of the county final of 2005, the girls came back with a vengeance in the second half.

Goals from Nicola Vavsour, Angie Fenton and Aine Cullen set the tempo for the remainder of the game. Brigids found their form in the second half and with brilliant displays from Brid Leahy, Aoife Murray and Caroline Mc Groary in defence, Clontarf could find no way through in the second half. The Brigids forwards continued to score with Aimee Molloy, Debbie Greene and Shona Barrett all attaining impressive point scores. Hopefully we will see similar performances throughout the season from St Brigids
