Ladies Inter Footballers Retain 100% Record defeating Lucan Sarsfields - Fri, 11 May 2007

St Brigids 1-14 Lucan Sarsfields 1-9

St Brigids Ladies remain unbeaten this season as they overcame local rivals Lucan Sarsfields in this Intermediate Cup match.  Played on a windy evening last Wednesday in Russell Park, the Brigids girls opened the scoring early with a point from Angie Fenton.

Further points were added for Brigids as Colleen Barrett and Katie Murphy worked well together throughout the first half to add their names to the score sheet and when Paula Bruen was fouled within the area, Angie Fenton stepped up to slot home from the penalty spot.  Within ten minutes, Bruen fired a superbly finished goal into the back of the net.  It was a tough half for Lucan as they were playing against a strong wind but showed great ability and team work and scored a goal and 5 points before the half time break.

Brigids came back strong at the beginning of the second half with another goal from Fenton following some great link up play with midfielder Aine Cullan and a clever pass from Paula Bruen. Lucan showed some great spirit at this point in the second half to make an impressive comeback scoring another 3 points and a goal to bring the gap to just 4 points at one stage. This was an exciting period of the game with the Brigids defence showing their worth against a skilful Lucan side.  Roisin Kelly and Debbie Greene were remarkable in the full back line with Jenny Weldon and Roisin ui Bhaoilll surging forward from half back to link up with the forwards.

Brigids were awarded another penalty as Rose Holland was fouled and Angie Fenton showed great composure to score her third goal of the game.  Furthur points from Fenton, Mc Groary, Katie Murphy, Collen Barrett and Paula Bruen finished off the match.  This win has the Brigids girls entering the Championship season next week with a 100% record so far.
