St Brigid's and Cabinteely have played many exciting games over the years and usually battle it out for league and championship honours. This game therefore was expected to be a cracker and so it turned out to be.

Cabinteely, playing at home and with a strong wind behind them were the first to score though it wasn?t long before Aisling King for Brigids scored the first of an impressive five goal tally. The rest of the first half was exciting nip and tuck action with both sides trading scores and neither gaining advantage.

For Brigids, Helen O'Connor in goals was very solid and the full back line of Anita O'Brien, Christine Kavanagh and Aisling Woodgate were kept busy trying to contain the Cabinteely forwards. Three goals from Aisling King and one from Sarah Fay were the key scores that kept Brigid's in the game.

The Brigids half backs of Aoife Twomey and Caroline Brogan battled well throughout and the mid field pairing of Enya Farrell and Eleanor Hale worked very hard to keep Brigids in the game. As the half time whistle blew Brigids went into the break the happier just one point behalf on a score line of 3-6 to 4-2.

Brigids began the second half with another goal from Aisling King and in truth with the wind behind them they completely dominated this half. An outstanding performance from Emma Devitt ably supported by Michelle O'Reilly, Sarah Fay and Rachel Troy kept Brigids ahead while the attacking performance of Róisin Kane and Niamh Emery kept up the pressure on the resolute Cabinteely defence.

A brace of goals from Sarah Fay and Michelle O'Reilly helped push home the advantage and as the rain continued to pelt down the referee blew time on a final score of Brigids 8-7 Cabinteely 3-10. A well deserved 12-point margin of victory for St Brigids. Who will be happy with the result of this Division 1 league encounter though they will have to meet Cabinteely once more in the league when it's likely they will face a stiffer challenge.
