Ladies Junior Footballers Continue To Improve Against Strong Clann Mhuire - Mon, 13 Apr 2009

"Another beautiful spring evening saw St. Brigid's Ladies Junior team facing Clann Mhuire in division 5, round one of the league at home in Russell Park. St. Brigid's won possession from the off and an early goal from Fín (múinteoir mama bear) Ní Dhomnaill followed swiftly with a point from Jackie McNamee saw Brigids with an early lead and a good game of football for the home side looked to be on. Clann Mhuire fought back managing to score consecutive points putting St. Brigids under serious pressure, new comer Sinead Brennan showed her worth with a much needed point and at half time St. Brigids were only marginally in the lead with 1 goal and 3 points to Clann Mhuire's 5 points.

The second half saw St. Brigids with the disadvantage of playing uphill and it showed as once again the backs had to fight hard with good blocks from Katie McMahon and another newcomer Fiona Shanahan. Goalie Helen (the wall) O'Connor played a blinder making save after save as the home team tried to fight off a fresher looking, young Clann Mhuire. Despite St. Brigid's best efforts Clann Mhuire managed to score 2 goals and 3 points in total throughout the second half to St. Brigids 2 points. Full time score was 2-8 to 1-5 in favour of Clann Mhuire.
