Junior Ladies Footballers Beat Clontarf in Style in Russell Pk League Clash - Mon, 1 Jun 2009

St. Brigids 6-2, Clontarf 0-2

St. Brigid?s Junior Ladies ended their loosing streak with a runaway win over Clontarf on Wednesday evening. The ladies team were left wondering if it was the new kit generously sponsored by local business "Marie Quinn Health and Beauty" or new Bainisteoir Pat Boylan or team member Katie McMahon?s new flaming red hot hair. Whatever it was St. Brigid?s had possession and made good of almost all scoring opportunities from the off. With Jackie McNamee, Fiona Stack, Colette Boylan, Carly Sweeney and Niamh Emery bringing home the bacon to make St. Brigids clear leaders at half time with a score of 3-2 to 0-0. However it wasn't all plain sailing as an altercation with the referee saw Brigids Bainisteoir banished from the pitch and super goalie Helen (the Wall) O'Connor finally succumbed to an injury she sustained in the first minutes of the match and came off at half time.

Brigids aware of their troubles and with the wind against them stayed determined and fantastic football ensued. Cathy Shiels dodged her way from the half way line up to the 13m to attempt a point which unluckily hit the post. The phrase "you see them here, you them there, you see them everywhere" could be said of the midfield, the half and the full back line who dominated the field over their Clontarf rivals. Substitute goalie Fín (múinteoir mama bear) Ní Dhomnaill made fantastic saves throughout the second half, Clontarf only managing to score two points. Fiona Stack once again showing her worth extended Brigid?s lead further with two goals. A lovely pass in from Finola Ryan saw super substitute Fiona O'Carroll put the icing on the cake for St. Brigids as she scored a goal just minutes before the final whistle.
