Congrats to our Ladies Footballers who were crowned Leinster Champions on Sunday. A brilliant achievement by such a young side. The.  Leinster queens -- St Brigid's of Dublin. Joyous scenes in Russell Park on Sunday night. Home were the heroes. They had beaten the highly rated Westmeath side Garrycastle, 2-11 to 1-4. The Dubs had earned their victory. A large Blanchardstown contingent had made the journey to Athy. The Brigid's braves did the club proud.

The management team couldn't have asked for more -- Seán Murphy, Phil Kelly, Phil Brennan, Mary Galvin and Eddie Murphy. "The girls are such a special group," stated Sean. "And the key to it is that they work so hard for each other." That has been the vital ingredient on the Leinster Road. It has all been about putting in the hours. Dublin's Elaine Kelly is the captain. She's a supremely talented footballer, but it's her overall industry that sets the mood.

And it's the same with Colleen Barrett, Dublin's brilliant half-back. She's never slow to put in the yards. Barrett, club colleague Sorcha Furlong and Siobhan McGrath of Thomas Davis formed Dublin's formidable half-back line that almost saw them win the All-Ireland title last month. These have been exciting times for Brigid's, who lifted the Dublin Intermediate crown for the third time in September, defeating the experienced Garda. "We are a young side. We are learning all the time, but you just can't fault the dedication of the girls," sums up Sean Murphy.

Following that excellent win under the Parnell Park lights, Brigid's began their provincial journey with a home success against Kildare's Balyna before accounting for St Fortcherns in Carlow. And, as they showed again in Kildare on Sunday afternoon, they have no fear about putting petrol in the bus. That's the attitude that has got them this far. And now the Saints are eager to go further along the highway. Saturday November 14 is also pencilled into their diary.

No, not because of the big Ireland-France World Cup play-off in Croke Park. The Brigid's folk will all be heading to the Citywest Hotel where one of their own, Colleen Barrett, is in the frame to get an All Star. That just shows how far Brigid's have progressed, and Dublin officials are thrilled that they continue to keep the blue flag flying.
