D Murphy, S Hawkshaw & S Freeman Help Dublin U16's Beat Meath in Champo - Thu, 11 Mar 2010

Dublin 6-9 Meath 5-6

Dublin produced an excellent display to overcome a spirited Meath side in the first round robin game of the U16 Leinster Championship in The Naul, County Dublin, on Saturday 6th March. Played in perfect conditions both teams displayed some super football but it was the home team that prevailed on a score line of 6-9 to 5-6. Meath started extremely well with three well taken points before a flurry of scores from Dublin's Siobhan Woods, Lauren Ebbs and Mollie Lamb saw Dublin race into a six point lead after fifteen minutes.

Meath responded with a goal of their own before corner forward Lauren Ebbs fired in three consecutive goals. Maria McGrath at half forward and Sarah McCaffrey at midfield were providing plenty possession for the Dublin forwards and a point just before the interval from Oonagh Whyte left the score 6-5 to 1-5 in Dublin's favour at half time. Meath were a transformed team after the break and after quickly reduced the deficit to 8 points with three goals and a point. Dublin's defence were now at full stretch and worked tirelessly, particularly Sarah Hawkshaw and Claire King, to keep the Meath attack at bay.

Further points from Siobhan Woods settled Dublin and they held their nerve to prevail on the day on a score line of 6-9 to 5-6. Dublin and Meath were well matched and both teams played some outstanding attacking football.
