Hurling & Handball

In these TV and Playstation days its always a challenge to introduce children to new sports especially if those sports are considered to be difficult to play by people who haven't yet tried them out. handball5c.jpg (57054 bytes)

This year , the regular Monday night Winter Indoor Training for the Under 9 hurlers and Under 10 footballers have been a little bit different . The children have rotated in groups to learn and practice their skills and included in this is an introduction to the game of Handball. This worked very well and the game has proved very popular with the children. handball2.jpg (32097 bytes)

Handball is a great game to develop hand-eye co-ordination, improve footwork ( no less a hurler than DJ Carey speaks highly of it! ) and it is great fun. handball4.jpg (35923 bytes)

It also makes for better use of the facilities of the Club , which has two indoor Handball courts . The weekly training session can better cater for large numbers attending with children being kept active and learning a new sport at the same time

it is planned to expand the model for next winter's indoor training schedule and to introduce even more boys and girls to handball.

With handball Champions like Eoin Kennedy and Maria McCarthy playing at adult level in the Club and a whole new generation of children being introduced to the game , the future looks bright for Handball at St.Brigid's .

New members are always welcome at this lively Club which serves Blanchardstown and Castleknock areas from its Clubhouse behind Esso on the Navan Roadhandball5b.jpg (76237 bytes)
