Danone Big Toddle for Barnardos - Little Feet took on a Big Feet - Wed, 28 May 2008
Children from St Brigids GAA raise money for other children in the Danone Big Toddle for Barnardos. The boys and girls of St Brigids GAA nursery in Russell Park raised a fabulous E1924 on the night (more to come) taking part in the fun and frolics of the Danone Big Toddle for Barnardos. By walking up to a half a mile, these children raised vital funds for Barnardos, Ireland?s leading childrens charity and its work with vulnerable children their own age. All the children had great fun on the night. Minister Brian Lenihan and Barry Cahill very kindly took time out of their busy schedules to talk to the children before the walk and signed autographs. Minister Lenihan and Barry cut the starting tape for the walk and cheered the children on during the walk. All the children received a certificated from Barnardos for participating and also received a goodie bag full of well deserved treats. When the walk was over all the younger siblings (age between 1 and 3) took part in a smaller toddle again starting by Minster Lenihan and Barry Cahill. 2008 is the fifth year of the Danone Big Toddle for Barnardos and saw thousands of children take on the toddle challenge all over Ireland including those of St Brigids GAA nursery in Russell Park who walked on Friday 23 May. "We want to thank everyone who took on the toddle challenge-Minister Brian Lenihan, Barry Cahill, the organisers, the friends and families that supported the event, everyone locally that helped out-but most all of a huge thank you to the children who put their feet to the test. They are helping us raise vital funds for our work with vulnerable children and their families and we hope the young fundraisers had enormous fund doing so" Orla Tighe, Barnardos Fundraising Manager said. The Danone Big Toddle for Barnardos is the biggest fundraising event for young children in Ireland and helps support Barnarodos? Best Start Programmes, which provides a range of services aimed at babies and toddlers. The services provide a warm, safe and encouraging environment for children who are isolated or have poor social skills helping them get ready for school. "The Danone Big Toddle for Barnardos would not be possible without the sponsorship from Danone. Their support means that the money raised by the toddlers efforts will go directly to Barnardos", Ms Tighe concluded.
