St Brigids GAA annual mini league festival got it right for all ages

What a week of fun, team sport, lots and lots of great football and so many future Dublin players in the making. It all kicked of on Monday night with the under 8's lining up behind their county team flags and marching onto the pitches. Over 95 boys and girls were playing in this group representing 10 teams each named after a county. Some of the players were fortunate to get selected on a county close to their parent's heart. Many parents took the opportunity to proudly wear their County jersey; one could say Cork was very well represented during the week.

This year the club managed to attract 400 boys and girls between the ages of 4 and12. The younger players played two matches a night for two nights during the week and the older players played 3 matches a night for two nights. As the week progressed you could see each team improving so much and getting closer as a group.

For each game the sidelines were packed with very proud mums and dads watching and waiting for their child to get the BALL. As the younger players got the ball and scored the players looked for the BIG well done from the parents. Many of whom could not respond, as there were engrossed in Videoing the whole moment. Watching these young children play football is so encouraging for the world of sport. At this age children play for fun fun and more fun.

On Saturday all the players played in the finals, the teams were made feel so special. Each team lined up behind their flags to receive their St brigids t-shirt to wear. Then when they were all geared up, they headed to the benches to get their team photos before kick off. When all the formalities were over the finals began. After more great football displays, all players received their medals from Dublin Minot Player Alan McCarrick and Cian Mullins. Then the players had a chance to enjoy the family day where there was lots to choose from. The atmosphere was fantastic, the DJ kept the music going. To make it a fun day many parents volunteered to operate various shops (from the best burgers in Dublin to a photo studio) on the side of the pitches during the finals. Maybe it was the good weather, or all the happy children, or the great volunteers or just luck but the 2008 mini leagues was an excellent success full of great memories for all the players and their parents.

We want to thank everyone who took part in the mini leagues, the organisers, the parents, the mentors, the mangers, everyone locally that helped out on the day and most of all a big thank to all the boys and girls who came and played their hearts out.
