Adult Football / Minor Hurling - Weekend Review   30/09/2018

After our Senior Ladies County final loss on Friday evening (Photos and report on Twitter page) the busy weekend of Championship action continued and saw our men's AFL3 Footballers emerge victorious in their quarter final battle with Cuala on Saturday evening.

In a tight and tense affair, Brigid’s were in front 0-05 to 0-03 approaching half time following points from Darragh McKenna, Colm Doyle and Donal Timoney. However, a Cuala goal just before the interval left the Dalkey men in front 1-03 to 0-05 at the half time whistle.

The second half followed a similar pattern with no more than a point separating the sides at any stage. With Brigid’s net minder Eoin Lysaght superbly kicking 3 '45's the Russell Park men looked like progressing before a fine late Cuala point brought us to extra time, 1-08 to 0-11.

In extra time, points from Colm Doyle and Jack O'Neill gave the lads a slim advantage before Brigid’s burst clear in the second period of extra time. Goals from Josh Connolly and Donnacha Ryan saw the lads into the semi-finals on a score line of 2-16 to 1-10. Well done to Graham, Sean, Liam and the lads!

Unfortunately, our AFL7 Footballers did not finish as strong in their last 16 Championship battle against Naomh Olaf on Sunday. Trailing 1-07 to 0-04 at the break, the lads responded brilliantly scoring 5 unanswered points to leave just the minimum between the sides with 15 minutes left, 1-07 to 0-09. However, a second Olaf's goal on the counter attack proved crucial as they ran out 2-10 to 0-10 winners.

In league football, our AFL10 side came back from 8 points down with just under 15 minutes left to recored a brilliant 3-12 to 2-13 win over St Brendan's in Grangegorman.
Driven forward by the superb JP Costigan and Colm Hawkes in defence, the lads were 1-09 to 1-05 in front at the break. Brendan's would dominate the third quarter however and looked to be out of sight before scores from Dessie Carolan, Jack Chambers and Bobby Kilkenny saw Lar Wade's men recorded a brilliant comeback win to finish the season in midtable.

Our Minor A Hurlers also recorded a brilliant 5-13 to 0-10 Championship win over Round Towers Clondalkin on Sunday morning while our Minor B team had a bye this weekend.
