Millar Shield Final Match Report 2016-11-29 15:06:00

St Brigids  2 - 11               Na Fianna  2 - 9

St. Brigids last won this competition in 1967 / 68, so it was long over due a return visit to Russell Park. This was a home fixture for Na Fianna in their home grounds on Mobhi Road. Conditions were ideal with only a slight wind. Na Fianna played with wind advantage in the first half, however it was the visitors, St Brigids who raced into an early lead with three points from the experienced Sean Sullivan, and a well taken goal by Ciaran O Reilly. Na Fianna were not lying down and hit back with three points in quick succession, all coming from their full forward line.Daire McGowan got on the score sheet with a long range point. Half time score St Brigids 1g 4pts to Na Fianna 0 - 6pts.

St Brigids had wind advantage in the second half and Keith Morris soon had his name on the score sheet with a point, Daire McGowan soon followed with another point. St Brigids Rob Kelly was excellent in the half back line, clearing a lot of ball into his forwards.  Keith Morris  found the net mid - way through the half and it appeared that Brigids were starting to pull away from their opponents.  Sean Sullivan was very reliable on frees and he converted three more.  Dave Brooks at centre back and Liam Lyng at left half forward were outstanding for St Brigids. Na Fianna were not finished yet and scored two goals in the last minutes of the game to leave the final score difference of two points.

Denis Carr from the County Board was on hand to present the shield to winning captain Keith Morris.
