A great day of hurling was had at the St Olaf’s Dad’s and Lads Blitz on Saturday afternoon, with teams travelling from near and far including Cuala, St Olaf’s, Wexford, Cabinteely, St Anne’s, Whitehall, St Jude’s and St Pat’s among others.
It marked the first outing of the year for our lads, and while a bit of early rust was evident in the opening game, they dug deep to secure a solid draw against Cabinteely.
From there, performances sharpened, with three tightly contested matches against St Olaf’s, the Auld Puckers from Wexford, and Clanna Gael - all competitive battles that could have gone either way.
It was a proper physical day out: six hurleys broken, plenty of shins rattled and fingers stung, but thankfully every man walked off the pitch in one piece.
With the first run-out now under the belt, weekly training is back up and running, and there’s a big push on to get even more lads involved for the season ahead.
Oylegate in Wexford is the next venue for the “Old Puckers” Blitz on 23rd May. If you want to get involved contact Decy on 086 848 6115. All welcome regardless of ability or level!
