This PTSB Dublin senior football championship 2 final began in glorious sunny conditions at 3.30pm in the Naul and at almost 5.45pm, with the floodlights on and fireworks starting to go off in the vicinity, they were still going.

The regulation hour of football couldn't separate them and neither could extra time, so it went all the way to penalties with St Brigid's ultimately coming out on top in a Halloween cracker to take the title.

Philly Ryan, Scott Daly, Anthony Gallagher and Andrew Waldron converted all four of their team's kicks and with Vincent's tallying just two from four attempts, that was that.

It was a dramatic conclusion to a memorable game that was played in near perfect conditions at the Clann Mhuire club grounds.

Brigid's will toast the heroics of goalkeeper Gavin Sheridan because when the game appeared to have slipped away from them in normal time, he dragged the Castleknock club right back into it.
St Vincent's, who top the SFC 1 roll of honour with 29 titles, appeared to have done enough to cap promotion back to the top tier with silverware when they led by 2-12 to 0-9 early in the final quarter.

But Brigid's suddenly came roaring to life in the closing quarter hour or so with Sheridan converting no less than three two-point frees, as well as a 45.

The point from the 45 came in the sixth minute of stoppage time and was required to tie the game at 2-13 to 0-19, forcing extra time.

It was the most intense of pressure but the Brigid's number one, who featured for Dublin in the 2025 National League, held his nerve and slotted the kick.

That brought his tally for the hour to a whopping 11 points having earlier converted two two-point frees in the first half of normal time.

Those scores were against the run of play at the time as Vincent's were largely on top initially and were full value for their 1-9 to 0-8 lead at the interval. With goalkeeper Andy Smyth getting all six of his kick-outs away safely in that period, and Sheridan on five from 12, Brigid's were hanging on and grateful for those two-point scores which kept them in it.

Seán Lowry scored the Vincent's goal after just six minutes, capitalising after an interception in the Brigid's back line.

The Marino side's second goal arrived four minutes into the second half and was expertly dispatched by Kalem O'Brien.

It was a wonderful long, diagonal delivery from Cian Dunne that set it up and O'Brien beat Sheridan with a drive from the left of goals.
Paul Reynolds Hand added a point when Vincent's won the resulting kick-out and this was followed by two more singles from O'Brien, leaving the 2022 SFC 2 winners with a healthy 2-12 to 0-9 advantage.

It looked set to be Vincent's day again but Brigid's simply refused to give in and won free after free that Sheridan happily trotted up to fire over, sending us to extra time.

Brigid's pulled clear in the first half of extra time, outscoring Vincent's by 0-5 to 0-1 in that period.
Now it was the men in red who had all the momentum and they led by five when Jack O'Neill pointed early in the second half of extra time, 0-25 to 2-14.

Vincent's responded impressively at this stage, mining out an unanswered 1-2, the goal coming from Peter Costello, to sensationally level the game, necessitating penalties.

Ciaran O'Connor had a great game for Vincent's and scored two brilliant points but when the defender kicked his team's opening penalty wide, it opened the door for Brigid's who happily stepped through.

All four of the Brigid's penalties were dispatched low to the goalkeeper's right while Sheridan was hailed for his heroics again when he saved the fourth Vincent's penalty, from Cian Dunne.
