St. Brigid’s Breakaway Brilliance as U16 Boys Seal ‘A’ Championship Glory

The scene was set in a wet and windy north county Dublin as Garristown’s grounds played host to the U16 A Football Championship final last Saturday where two very well matched teams were vying for silverware.

Both sides had narrow victories in their semi final ties with Brigid’s beating a hotly tipped Sylvester’s side by two points and St. Peter’s coming out on top of Na Fianna by a single point, it was always going to be a tight game.

The first half saw both sides trade scores in less than ideal conditions, with home advantage giving St. Peter’s the edge at half time, leading by 2 points after a serious battle in the opening 30 minutes.

But the second half saw Brigid’s rise to the occasion showing calmness, maturity and clever football for a team of their age, making correct decisions at crucial moments, working for each other and selflessness in shooting for the greater good of the team.

Brigid’s slowly edged away in the second half with their goals ultimately punishing St. Peter’s with our boys in red pushing on to victory by six points with captain Darragh lifting the trophy and giving an excellent speech on behalf of the Brigid’s squad.

St. Peter’s 0-16
St. Brigid’s 4-10
