The Cian Walsh Memorial Hurling & Camogie Blitz

The Cian Walsh Memorial Hurling & Camogie Blitz is a very special day in the St Brigid’s GAA calendar, bringing young players, families and clubs together at Russell Park for a celebration of hurling, camogie, friendship and fun.

The Blitz is held in memory of our young clubmate Cian Walsh, who sadly passed away in 2020 at just seven years of age. Cian had Cardiomyopathy, a serious heart condition, but he approached life with incredible energy, fun and a huge love of hurling.

Now in its fourth year, the Blitz continues to grow while keeping Cian and his spirit at the heart of the day. Visiting clubs from around the country join our St Brigid’s teams for a festival of underage hurling and camogie where the emphasis is firmly on participation, enjoyment and giving every child the opportunity to play.

For us, the day is about much more than the matches. It is about remembering Cian through something he loved, welcoming friends old and new to Russell Park, and creating a day filled with the same enthusiasm, laughter and enjoyment that Cian brought to those around him.

The Blitz also provides an opportunity to support Heart Children, the national organisation supporting people born with Congenital Heart Disease and their families.
