GAA Handball Féile na nGael 2023 Winners

Congratulations to the St. Brigid’s Féile team who won the national Féile 60×30 championship in Roscommon on Saturday, 12 August last. The boys put on a great display of handball and their efforts over the past number of months were rewarded.

There were obvious nervous in the first round of matches. Their opponents took an early lead and looked to take control of the game.  However, Fintan and Eoghan remained calm and dug deep to battle for a well-deserved victory.  In the second game, Peter and Daragh settled very quickly.  The game was determined by a very commanding service game from the St. Brigid’s lads, who ran out convincing winners.

Nerves were settled, and the boys placed themselves in a great position with some early points.  This stood to them through the next round and the boys were through to a final.

Liscarroll from Cork awaited them in the final.  The first round was a tense affair to start with.  Once again Eoghan and Fintan had to fight from behind.  They managed the game well and remained composed.

In a timed match, time was on our side as the boys ran the clock down and took a 19-13 win.  In the second game, Peter and Daragh managed early pressure very well.  They once again controlled the game with an impressive service game.   The boys managed the court well, and their communication and skill lead to another convincing win.  Daragh was rewarded for his skill today by winning the Féile skills award.

It’s a massive achievement for St. Brigid’s and Dublin handball to be able to compete at this level.  The boys have put in a tremendous effort in training since April.  Our Féile team is made up of Fintan, Eoghan, Peter, Daragh, Finn and Patrick.  Unfortunately Finn and Patrick weren’t available on Saturday, but we would not have achieved this success without their efforts and commitment.

We would also like to acknowledge Ciarán Kehoe andRory Lynch for all there efforts coaching the boys, along with Eugene Kennedy for his time and support.
